Welcome message from the Campus Senior Director, Ms Sharon Masiza

A warm welcome to our Bird Street Campus – a campus where arts, culture, heritage and human rights converge! My name is Sharon Masiza and I am the Senior Director of the Bird Street Campus.

Our campus is situated in the Central precinct of the city, an area steeped in Eastern Cape historical architecture and a growing cosmopolitan. Here you will find the university’s School of Music, as well as the Art and Design’s postgraduate programme in Visual Arts.

We are relatively small but close-knit campus and cater to a large number of students that reside within Central. We take care in ensuring that our campus is suitably equipped to meet our students’ ICT, study and recreational needs. To that end, we have reliable wireless-enabled infrastructure, an accessible 24hr computer laboratory, and attractive and relaxed exterior spaces.

Bird Street Campus (which includes the Cuyler Street premises) takes full advantage of our prime location to advance our university’s Vision 2030 mandate, immersing ourselves within our locale. The campus houses the Engagement and Transformation Portfolio which champions our commitment of becoming a transformative and responsive university. Through our campus-based engagement entities like the Hubs of Convergence, we build collaborative partnerships with local civic structures, non-government organisations, and a wide range of stakeholder-communities to co-create a future we wish to see and experience.

Our campus cherishes the contributions made by creatives and is home to the university’s Bird Street Art Gallery. This magnificent gallery is a source of inspiration and artistic expression for seasoned and aspiring local and international talent.

Wamkelekile! Welkom!
